A Helping Hand
When it comes to using technology in the classroom, I can totally see how it could be difficult for students to realize and know what they are doing. Blogs are kind of confusing! In order to help my students better understand what they are doing, I would help them out the first couple of times and do run thrus. After showing my students what they should be doing and how to do it, I would let them go off on their own and explore the site because that really is the best way to familiarize yourself with something. Next, after knowing my students were comfortable with the blog site, I would let them create their own blog all on their own. The first blog will no doubt be kind of rough, but I hope with lots of practice, it will help make a creative outlet for all of the students. Activities to use blogging in the classroom are absolutely endless!

That is a good way to teach blogging. Let them take over and learn after you have showed them the ropes.
ReplyDeleteSlowly integrating blogs into your classroom is probably the best idea for students- especially the younger ones. That way the task seems less daunting.
ReplyDeleteI like your teaching approach to blogging. Like rhone_rebecca said, young students would benefit greatly form this. Great ideas!
ReplyDeleteI agree blogging is very confusing at first! I think it is a good idea to have run throughs with your students. That way they can learn from their mistakes.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct. The best way for someone to learn something is to explore it, make mistakes, and figure things out on their own.
ReplyDeleteGuiding students while you are introducing a new technology activity to them is beneficial to the students along with allowing them to explore for themselves.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really good start. Do you think that you would eventually work into assigning projects or homework through blogs or maybe just have each student keep them as a personal journal?
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of using it as a creative outlet.
ReplyDeleteI like how you woulld let them get familiar with the site at first, then let them make their own blogs. Good Idea.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a good idea to go over how to set up the blogs and use them for the first couple of times so your students can familiarize themselves with the process before letting them lose to create blogs of their own.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you would start out by teaching them the basics and then allowing them to just explore. I always find that with any technology it is easiest to just explore and see what happens.
